From the recording Non-Judgment Day
Humanity’s first fantasies about democracy started in Greece, exploded during The Enlightenment, and led to the birth of America.
Nixon marked the start of the modern American divorce from democracy. The rise of marital divorce in the 1970s isn’t a coincidence. Love and democracy are parallel stories in the evolution of the human psyche.
It’s not the end of the world but it is the end of something.
Things move in phases. Things grow. Things die. Things grow again.
Turn, turn, turn.

I wrote and recorded this song years ago, but maybe it was always meant to come out now, at the end of 2024, when it's clearer than ever that we live in a post-empire nation.
I'm incredibly grateful to Phil, Karl, Allyson, Nich, and Genevieve (rest in peace) for playing on this track, and to everyone who’s supported me through tough break-ups over the years. Now seems like one of those times again.
I hope this song serves you as much as it has served me.
Lyrics
I get a lot of emails from my buddy Don
Pictures of hot females with no panties on
They stand behind the screen and scream let's get it on
I close the office door, and then I write this song
End of America
Living in the country is the way I roll
I bought a funky farm house that I heat with coal
It's got a hardwood floor and plaster walls
It's got a claw foot tub and alcohol
I miss you
Do you miss me too?
What a thing to say, it's so cliche
Don't listen to
Me anymore
Break the phone
I'll fight this war alone
At the end of America
They say the meek shall inherit the earth
I guess I'm cursed
I've got a lot of damn pride
And my heart hurts
End of America
Eleven years ago I wasn't half this sad
Eleven years from now it might be twice this bad
Washington, DC, might look like Leningrad
Carbondale might look a lot like Baghdad
And I love you
Do you love me, too?
What a thing to say, it's so insane
Don't listen to
Me anymore
Smash the glass
I'm gonna tell my buddy Don to kiss my ass
Like it's the end of America
I say we change our names
Take a trip to northern Maine
See a moose, free a goose, give thanks
End of America
Feels like the end of America
It's not the end of the world
It's just the end of America
